My husband, Tom, is the kind of guy who sees potential in what others dismiss as junk. This Christmas season, he came up with an idea to turn scrap wood into festive Christmas trees—not just for decoration, but to make some money and pay his bills.

He scavenged his workshop for pieces of old pallets, broken furniture, and discarded planks, anything that could be repurposed. With a saw in hand and a vision in his mind, Tom spent days cutting, sanding, and shaping the wood into tree forms. It wasn’t just about making something beautiful; it was about breathing new life into forgotten materials and making a living.

Once the trees were ready, Tom set up his painting station. He chose vibrant
Christmas colors—bright reds, lush greens, peaceful whites, and shimmering golds.

Tom decided to sell his creations in the Facebook Marketplace. He set up his trees on the dining room table with some festive Christmas paper as a backdrop and added some ornaments and colorful holiday greenery.  He took a series of photos and uploaded them to FB Marketplace to advertise his handmade Christmas trees. As people saw the ad, they were drawn to his vibrant and one-of-a-kind design. Families loved the idea of having a hand-crafted tree made from reclaimed wood.

Sales are starting to pick up, and Tom’s trees are becoming a hit. The word is spreading quickly, and now Tom has people placing orders for custom designs. Some want their family names painted on the trees, while others are asking for specific colors and patterns. Tom is working tirelessly to meet the demand, and his efforts are paying off.

By the time the holiday season is in full swing, Tom hopes to be making a little extra money. He realizes that his passion for repurposing scrap wood has not only helped him financially but is also bringing joy to many families. Tom’s Christmas trees are a symbol of resourcefulness and creativity, proving that even in tough times, there’s a way to make ends meet with a bit of ingenuity and hard work.
